The Armed Forces of Ukraine will ensure the transportation of repatriated bodies and remains to special institutions and will undergo an examination to identify the identities of the dead. This was reported on November 20 at the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
The event was carried out in cooperation with the Joint Center under the SBU, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Service for Emergency Situations, the State Tax Service and other representatives of law enforcement agencies. Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross contributed to this.
The headquarters added that in accordance with the norms of International Humanitarian Law, the bodies of combatants who died in connection with the armed aggression against Ukraine were handed over to the opposing side.
Let us recall that as of mid-November 2023, it was established that 4,337 Ukrainian military and civilians were in Russian captivity, and 1,953 were released from captivity. The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War stated that Russia is not interested in the fate of its prisoners, therefore it is delaying the exchange and creating various obstacles.
