Amid the influx of migrants from Russia, the Finnish military is building protective structures on the state border.
In Finland, construction of temporary fences begins at the Vartius checkpoint near the Russian border; the Finnish military assists the border guards. This was reported by Yle on Sunday, November 19.
In the immediate vicinity of the barriers, protective buildings are being built, that is, temporary state border barriers. “This measure is to ensure the functioning of the border post,” said the head of the border post, Captain Jouko Kinnunen.
It was noted that the night at the border stations passed peacefully. On Saturday, 67 people were invited to the shelter.
In addition, Finnish border guards claimed that at least some of the asylum seekers were “pushed across the border” against their will.
Kinnunen said people who crossed the border yesterday acted aggressively towards Russian border authorities as they were “pushed away from the Russian border post towards Finland” and then the gates were closed behind them, which making it impossible to return to Russian territory.
“The behavior of the last group of 20 people showed that they did not want to enter Finland,” he said.
Finland has reportedly closed four checkpoints on its border with Russia in response to the growing number of asylum seekers. In addition, the country is considering the possibility of completely closing the border with the Russian Federation.
