The question is that these aircraft do not have tactical and technical characteristics significantly weaker than Russian ones. We need modern aircraft that can gain an advantage in the air,” Yuri Ignat said during the telethon.
According to Ignat, the F-16 will be able to win back Russian aviation and provide air cover for ground troops.
Ignat explained that F-16 aircraft in a certain modification, which are needed by the Ukrainian air force, can strike ground, surface and air targets, and protect the state inside from missiles and drones.

Last week it became known that the United States will supply spare parts for F-16 fighters upon their arrival in Ukraine.
Once the F-16s fall into the hands of the Ukrainians, support will not stop. Replacement parts are required to ensure they can operate and continue to fly. The United States is ready to provide this, said William LaPlante, Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment.
According to him, spare parts need to be provided for 90 days, because without them, fighter jets could fail in just a few months.

He also emphasized that the United States and partners, particularly through the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, are working together to ensure that Ukraine has what it needs and is able to support itself in the long term.
