The European Commission is advising all its enforcement agencies to stop running advertising on the social network X/Twitter due to concerns about the spread of misinformation. This was reported by Politico in connection with an internal document of the commission.
In a memo sent to all service chiefs, the European Commission’s deputy chief representative, Dana Spinant, noted that misinformation on X, particularly regarding the Israeli-Hamas war, led the commission to “recommend a temporary suspension of advertising” on the platform until further notice. reporting to avoid the risk of damaging the institute’s reputation.
Social network X is under scrutiny in Europe through the new Digital Services Act (DSA) passed by the European Union. EU services can still use X for communications because of the EU Commission’s many profile pages. But Spinant said the department will “consider using alternative platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram or Facebook for paid advertising.
