On Thursday, the Union of Road Carriers of Slovakia (UNAS) blocked the checkpoint “Vyshe Nemetske – Uzhgorod” from the Slovak side at the hour from 13.00 to 14.00.
The carriers note that in this way they express support for their Polish colleagues, who have been protesting for several days against the liberalization of EU rules for Ukrainian carriers.
UNAS demands that the European Commission immediately introduce permits for the transportation of Ukrainian trucks, since European companies cannot compete with them.
Slovakian road carriers threaten that if the situation is not resolved, the border with Ukraine will be blocked on a permanent basis.
At the same time, a representative of the European Commission noted that any restoration of the permitting system or quotas for Ukrainian carriers is impossible from a legal point of view, since this contradicts the Agreement between the EU and Ukraine on the carriage of goods by road.
According to Polish media, the European Commission is already considering introducing “punitive measures” against Poland under EU legislation.
In addition, on Thursday Moldova suspended the passage of Ukrainian agricultural products and timber through the Mogilev-Podolsky – Otach private enterprise, the State Customs Service of Ukraine reports.
