Ukrainian authorities are already working on opening one of the airports for civil flights, but with a condition.
The head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak did not exclude that one of the airports in Ukraine will be opened for civilian flights even before the end of the war. He said this in a speech at the Hudson Institute as part of his visit to the United States.
At the same time, Ermak said that this is possible with a significant strengthening of air defense and protection of Ukrainian skies.
“Strengthening the air defense will be the key to recovery. To restore Ukraine, we need a reliable umbrella. In particular, its strengthening will allow us to reopen one of the airports in Ukraine. We are already doing this with our partners. This is a sign that the turning point in the war is approaching,” – he said. He.
According to Ermak, the next year will be decisive in this matter, but the head of the Public Administration did not give specific dates.
Let’s remember that on February 24, 2022, Ukraine completely closed its airspace to civil aircraft – the day of the full invasion of Russia. Soon after, EU countries and the USA closed their skies to Russian aircraft. Russia later retaliated.
