The people’s representative is suspected of misusing natural gas worth more than 2.1 billion hryvnias and legalizing illegally obtained profits.
The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court decided to arrest in absentia a sitting MP suspected in the case of gas theft worth 2.1 billion hryvnias. This was reported by the press service of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office on Monday, November 13.
SAPO does not indicate the name of the suspected representative of the people, but we are talking about Yaroslav Dubnevich.
“The investigating judge of the Supreme Court of Justice supported the position of the SAPO prosecutor and chose a preventive measure for the current representative of the people of Ukraine, who is reasonably suspected of organizing the seizure of state property (natural gas) in the amount of more than 2.1 billion hryvnias and the legalization of illegally obtained profits,” the statement said.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the court granted the request of the NABU detectives, which was agreed to by the SAPO prosecutor, and chose a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention.
“After the suspect is detained and taken to the place of pre-trial investigation, the investigating judge will decide on the application of this preventive measure,” the message said.
The prosecutor’s office reminds that this deputy was also accused of illegally allocating UAH 93 million in funds from Ukrzaliznytsia. On November 2, a panel of judges of the Supreme Court of Justice granted the SAPO prosecutor’s request to place Dubnevich on the international wanted list.
According to Europol, Dubnevich crossed the Romanian border with Hungary, his further whereabouts are unknown.
