The US military strikes were in response to a series of attacks on US military forces present in Syria and Iraq.
The United States has hit Iran-linked groups in eastern Syria. This was reported by the US Department of Defense and Reuters on Sunday, November 12.
“US forces have conducted precision strikes against targets in eastern Syria used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and affiliated groups in response to ongoing attacks against US personnel in Iraq and Syria,” US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said in a statement.
Austin clarified that the strikes were carried out on Iranian military facilities near the cities of Abu Kamal and Mayadin.
He added that US forces struck on the orders of President Joe Biden and that the US is now conducting an analysis to determine whether the strikes killed or wounded any militia members linked to Iran.
“The President has no higher priority than the safety of American personnel, and with today’s actions he has made it clear that the United States will protect itself, its personnel and its interests,” the Pentagon chief said. .
Hezbollah probably has Russian Yakhont (P-800 Oniks) anti-ship missiles. The militants indicate that they could use these weapons against American warships.
Media previously reported that two dozen US troops were injured in a series of drone attacks on US bases in Iraq and Syria last week.
