Edgars Rinkevics said that Europe and the United States should respond to Vladimir Zelensky’s call and provide Ukraine with more weapons.
Russia is preparing for a long war against the Ukrainians. However, victory for Ukraine will keep the peace in Europe. Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics said this in an interview with the Associated Press.
It is important for the West to support both Ukraine and Israel, the Latvian leader said.
“I also believe that it will be easier for us to maintain peace in Europe if Ukraine succeeds than if we fail in Ukraine, or, for that matter, allow the situation in the Middle East to get out of control,” he added.
Rinkevics said the West was obliged to respond to President Vladimir Zelensky’s call and provide Ukraine with more weapons, because “we didn’t give as much as we should have.”
According to him, Russia is now mobilizing its economy, resources and military equipment for a long war to try to “strangle” Ukraine.
According to the president, if the world sees that Europe and the United States cannot provide support to Ukraine, it will also affect the pressure on Israel.
The President of Latvia noted that Russia is turning into a totalitarian regime from an autocracy, and therefore uses propaganda, which has become worse since the Cold War.
He recalled that the Russians were showing videos or animations about the destruction of cities in Europe or the United States with nuclear weapons and saying that using nuclear weapons was “really as easy as peeling pears,” and Ukrainians are also called “a kind of inferior people. race,” reminiscent of the way “Nazi Germany spoke about the Jews.”
As we have already written, at the beginning of 2023, the Seimas of Latvia supported the changes in the law on supporting the civilian population of Ukraine, which created the grounds for the transfer of vehicles confiscated from drunk drivers to ownership -owned by Ukraine.
At the beginning of the summer, 66 confiscated cars were found to have been transferred by Latvia to Ukraine.
