Biden said the latest Republican proposal in the lower house of Congress, which does not provide aid to Ukraine, is a waste of time.
The Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, has submitted a bill on temporary funding for the federal government, which does not provide for the allocation of money to help Ukraine and Israel, The Hill reports.
Johnson’s plan proposes extending funding for some government programs and departments until January 19, 2024, and for others until February 2.
It will be noted that if the bill is not passed by Friday, November 17, the work of the US federal government will be suspended.
According to the speaker, the issue of allocating funds to help Israel, Ukraine and to strengthen the border should be considered separately from the bill on funding the government to avoid a shutdown.
The White House has already rejected a project to finance the work of the US government without the help of Ukraine.
“This proposal is a recipe for more chaos from Republicans and [ведет к] another shutdown, period,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.
He said House Republicans are wasting their time “on a pointless proposal that has been criticized by members of both parties.”
Recall that US President Joe Biden is trying to convince the US Congress to support aid to both Ukraine and Israel, and to approve a new aid package of $106 billion, including more than $61 billion in funds to help Ukraine.
On November 2, the US House of Representatives, led by new Speaker Mike Johnson, passed a bill to allocate military aid to Israel totaling $14.3 billion. The project does not provide assistance to Ukraine. However, this project did not provide assistance to Ukraine. Because of this, it was not accepted by the upper house of Congress.
