Despite the Russian Federation’s large-scale war against Ukraine, brown bears have not left the Chernobyl Nature Reserve.
The presence of a brown bear was recorded in the Chernobyl Radiation-Ecological Biosphere Reserve. This was reported by the press service of the reserve on Facebook.
In early November, members of the science department checked photomonitoring networks of large mammals and discovered a photo of a brown bear.
This species has already been recorded in the reserve in 2020 and 2022.
“The information received indicates that, despite the problems during the war, the largest predator in Europe did not leave the Chernobyl reserve, but feels at home here,” said the report.
The visible bear tracks regularly recorded by conservation science officers while patrolling the area in recent months are now supported by clear photographic evidence.
According to experts, the photos indicate that an adult man lives in the Chernobyl reserve.
A year and a half ago, the reserve began to resume its activities after the occupation.
We remind you that in July, in the southeastern part of the Vinnytsia region, a brown bear, listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, was seen in the fields.
In January, a black bear was “photographed” 400 times at Boulder Nature Park in Colorado.
