The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, while in Kyiv, said that Ukraine has achieved an impressive result on the path to joining the EU.
The European Union leadership intends to recommend the start of EU membership negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova on November 8. Two EU officials told Reuters on Monday, November 6.
It was mentioned that one of them had seen the draft report of the European Commission for its publication, and the other was familiar with its contents.
According to these officials, the recommendations are to note that formal negotiations with Kiev and Chisinau could begin next year.
“The report of the EU Enlargement Commission, which will also cover the progress towards membership of other EU accession candidates, remains final before official publication,” they added.
The European Commission is pleased and even surprised by how Ukraine is carrying out reforms during the war and is confident that our country will achieve the ambitious goal of starting EU accession negotiations this year.
Let’s recall that the Prime Minister of Finland, Petteri Orpo, said that Ukraine has shown significant progress in fulfilling the requirements necessary to start accession negotiations with the European Union. The negotiations themselves could begin before the end of the year.
