News of Putin’s decision has already “leaked” and his advisers are now preparing for the election campaign, the sources said.
The current leader of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has decided to participate in the presidential election in March 2024. This was reported by Reuters, citing six sources, on Monday, November 6.
According to interlocutors, the news of Putin’s decision has already “leaked”, and his advisers are now preparing for the campaign and the next presidential election.
“The decision has been made – he (Putin – ed.) will run,” said one of the interlocutors.
A foreign diplomatic source, who also wished to remain anonymous, said Putin made the decision recently and it will be announced soon.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment. In September, Peskov said that if Putin decides to run, no one will be able to run against him.
The Russian presidential election is scheduled to take place on March 17, 2024.
The agency recalls that on October 7, Vladimir Putin turned 71 years old. He has even surpassed Leonid Brezhnev’s 18-year tenure.
And if re-elected, Putin would surpass Joseph Stalin in terms of time in power. According to the new constitution of the Russian Federation, he can lead the country until he is 83 years old.
Earlier, the media found out who will “compete” with Putin in the election. The main criterion for the selection of candidates, used by the Kremlin, is over 50 years old, so that Putin does not look like a “grandfather” compared to them.
