Western analysts emphasized that the Ukrainian attack caused damage to the Askold missile carrier ship.
Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Saturday night, November 4, carried out successful strikes on Russian maritime and port infrastructure at the Zaliv shipyard in Kerch. The attack damaged the missile carrier ship Askold. This is stated in a new report from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
The Zaliv shipyard is the largest shipyard in Eastern Europe and is likely to be the main repair facility for the Black Sea Fleet in Crimea following Ukraine’s successful strike on the Russian state-owned Sevmorzavod shipyard in Sevastopol in September this year.
“The extent of damage to the repair facilities at the Zaliv shipyard is unknown, although available satellite imagery suggests that the Ukrainian strike is unlikely to cause damage that would disrupt its operations in the medium to long term, unlike the previous strike at the Sevmorzavod facility.” , ISW analysts suggest.
The Zaliv shipyard plans to build 14 warships intended for the Black Sea Fleet between 2016 and 2021, including eight Project 22800 Karakurt corvettes. According to ISW, only three corvettes were launched.
As we have already written, an air raid alert was declared in Crimea. The Russians set up a smoke screen near the Crimean Bridge and in Sevastopol Bay, and explosions were heard. Occupation authorities traditionally announced successful air defense operations. Later on social networks it was reported that the strike hit the shipyard and the small missile ship Askold.
Later, the Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed a successful strike on the Zaliv shipyard in the city of Kerch.
