One of these discussions took place in October at a meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format. They talked about what Kyiv would probably have to give up in order to reach agreements with the aggressor country. This was reported by the American television channel NBC News, citing unnamed current and former American officials.
The media writes that these discussions not only reflect the situation at the front in Ukraine, but also the political situation in Europe and the United States. It is noted that the discussion of the topic of peace negotiations began against the backdrop of concern among American and European officials that the war in Ukraine has reached a dead end, as well as the possibility of continuing to provide assistance to Ukraine.
Sources told the TV channel that the American government is concerned that the war in Ukraine has attracted less public attention since the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas. There are concerns in Washington and Europe that such a change could make it more difficult for Ukraine to obtain additional aid.
It is also reported that Kiev will have until the end of the year or a little more before urgent discussions on peace negotiations begin. NBC News reports that US officials have shared their views on such terms with European allies.
Sources also note that there is no information in the White House that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is ready to negotiate with Ukraine.
Washington does not rule out that the Russian president could “wait out the West,” or continue to fight until the United States and its allies lose support for financing Ukraine, or until the struggle to supply Kiev with weapons and ammunition becomes too expensive.
Let us recall that Russian propaganda media stated that Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, during a visit to China on October 30, announced his readiness to negotiate a “post-conflict resolution of the crisis in Ukraine.”
