According to the American media CNN, Ottawa called the Chinese side’s actions regarding the Sikorsky Cyclone helicopter “reckless”, since such an idea by Beijing could have provoked an accident, because “flares could have hit the main rotor blades or the engines.”
The attacked helicopter is based on the frigate Ottawa. This is the second such case of Canadian aircraft approaching a ship with a Chinese J-11. The previous time, on October 29, Chinese fighter jets flew at a distance of about 30 meters from the helicopter.
The pilot of the attacked helicopter indicated that he had previously had to avoid dangerous behavior from Chinese pilots who tried to create turbulence around his plane. During the incident, he had to fly the helicopter to an ultra-low altitude.
“This behavior is unacceptable under any circumstances, and we will express this to the PRC in the most acceptable way,” said the country’s Defense Minister Bill Blair.
