Moldova stopped paying membership fees to the post-Soviet Commonwealth of Independent States as another step towards leaving this organization.
The Government of Moldova will exclude the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) from the list of organizations to which the country pays annual membership fees. This was reported by the Moldovan service of Radio Liberty.
According to the draft decision signed by the Minister of Finance Petru Rotaru, the amount to be allocated by Moldova for the payment of membership fees in international organizations in 2023 was reduced by 16 million lei – from 66.5 million to 50.5 million lei.
The decrease is mainly due to the fact that Moldova will no longer pay fees for participation in the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and seven commonwealth organizations.
Over the past four years, almost 35 million lei in membership fees have been transferred from the state budget of countries within the CIS.
Against the backdrop of Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine, authorities in Chisinau announced Moldova’s gradual withdrawal from the CIS and denounced dozens of agreements signed within the organization.
In July, the parliament voted for Moldova’s withdrawal from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
