The United States should provide simultaneous support to both countries in one package, the head of the State Department said.
US State Department Head Antony Blinken and Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin spoke at the hearing in the Senate to ensure passage of a $106 billion package, much of it intended to support Ukraine and Israel.
According to Blinken, the United States should provide simultaneous support for both countries in one package.
“There is a clear connection between the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East,” the head of American diplomacy emphasized.
According to him, since Russia’s traditional channels for meeting its military needs are blocked by international sanctions, it is increasingly turning to Iran for help. This means two-way traffic, as Moscow offers Tehran more modern military technologies that pose a threat to Israel’s security.
“Allowing Russia to win Iran’s support will embolden Moscow and Tehran to do more evil,” Blinken said.
The Secretary of State emphasized that Western adversaries “recognize that our strategies are working, and they continue to do everything they can to stop us.” Because many on the world stage are betting that the United States will either lose a unified position or have to be distracted by solving domestic issues.
That is why it is necessary to approve the request of US President Joe Biden for additional funding to national security, which is expected to provide simultaneous support to both Ukraine and Israel.
Blinken believes the request is also critical in keeping America’s strategic competitors like China at bay, as well as strengthening deterrence against the emergence of conflict in other regions. And it could help reduce the impact of Russian war on global food and energy security, while also strengthening homeland security for Americans at home.
Lloyd Austin also supported the $106 billion package.
“In both Israel and Ukraine, democracies are fighting cruel enemies who seek to destroy them. We will not allow Hamas or Putin to win,” the Pentagon head emphasized.
The Joe Biden administration has reportedly asked Congress to approve $106 billion in support for Ukraine, Israel, and other foreign aid, hoping that such a package deal would help approve the full amount.
At the same time, Congress wants to vote separately on such initiatives.
