Strikes continue in the Gaza Strip and Israel. Recently, the IDF stated that they continue to expand their combat operations.
There is a water shortage in the Gaza Strip and it could be catastrophic. This was said on Monday, October 30, by the Head of the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Catherine Russell, in a speech to the UN Security Council, writes CNN.
He stressed that two million people are at risk of being left without water and pointed out that the water supply system in Gaza has been severely damaged.
“More than 55% of the water supply infrastructure in the Gaza Strip is in need of repair or rehabilitation. One desalination plant is operating at only 5% capacity, while all six water treatment plants are not functioning. due to lack of fuel or electricity,” he said.
According to the head of UNICEF, without clean water, people will die of dehydration and disease.
He also noted that children in Israel, Gaza and the occupied West Bank are currently experiencing severe trauma.
“We are doing everything we can to reach every child in need, but the delivery of humanitarian aid – especially in Gaza – is very difficult right now,” Russell said.
He called on the Security Council to immediately adopt a resolution calling for a ceasefire, humanitarian access, the release of all abducted and detained children, and special protection.
“Children don’t start conflicts, and they have no power to stop them. They need all of us… to put their safety first,” she stressed.
Israel has opened the second of three water pipelines that supply water to residents of the Gaza Strip, said Colonel Elad Goren of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
Let’s remember that on October 28, Israel announced a “new phase” in the war against the Hamas group.
