On CNN, Sullivan said the Israeli government and military “must use every possible means available to them to distinguish between Hamas, terrorists who are a legitimate military target, and civilians, who are not a legitimate target.”
On ABC’s This Week, Sullivan noted that Hamas “hides behind the civilian population, which places an additional burden on Israel to differentiate between terrorists and innocent civilians, but this does not diminish them [Ізраїлю] responsibility in accordance with international humanitarian law and law. laws of war to do everything in their power to protect civilians.”
In an interview with CNN, Sullivan also said that Hamas is preventing foreign citizens, including American citizens, from leaving Gaza – not the hostages taken on October 7, but those who were there voluntarily at the time of the attack on Israel.
Hamas has made “a number of demands” that it cannot disclose publicly, and “negotiations” are ongoing on the issue, Sullivan said.
