Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has long tested the patience of European Union leaders, delaying Sweden’s entry into NATO by blocking support for Ukraine.
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said Hungary is becoming a problem for the European Union that needs to be solved as it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain unity. The Guardian reported this.
The publication writes that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has long tested the patience of European Union leaders by delaying Sweden’s entry into NATO, blocking support for Ukraine and protesting against new laws on shifting. At the same time, shaking hands with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin may be the last straw.
“This is becoming a problem that we have to solve. We had different opinions before and managed to maintain unity, but in Hungary it is becoming more difficult. We are the European Union, we have rules where we work of decisions. We don’t have powerful tools to counter (what Hungary is doing – ed.),” Kallas said on the eve of the EU summit.
He was surprised that Budapest had views contrary to most EU member states and remained outside the eurozone despite high inflation. According to him, Hungary needs the European Union.
We remind you that Hungary has once again refused to consider Sweden joining NATO
Hungary has also reportedly blocked an EU aid package to Ukraine worth 500 million euros.
