Fico already held this post in 2006-2010 and 2012-2018. After winning the election, he promised to stop military aid to Ukraine, make foreign policy independent of partners from the EU and the United States, and radically protect state borders from a large flow of migrants. Aktuality.sk reports this.
The Ministry of Defense of Slovakia is headed by former Minister of Internal Affairs Robert Kaliniak, known for his fight with ex-Prime Minister of Slovakia Igor Matovic. The official was also involved in a corruption case, but the charges were subsequently dropped.
Juraj Blanar, who declared a “civil war in Ukraine” in 2014, became Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Slovak President Zuzana Caputova has already approved the composition of the new government.
Let us remind you that the early parliamentary elections in Slovakia were won by the pro-Russian party Smer-SD, which received more than 20% of the votes. The leader of this political force is Robert Fico, who has repeatedly stated the need to stop providing military assistance to Ukraine. After winning the election, he said that “people in Slovakia have bigger problems than Ukraine.”
