The Ministry of Justice has published instructions on how to protect your accounts in social networks and instant messengers from scammers.
Fraudsters on behalf of Meta wrote in private messages (Direct) on Facebook and Instagram and stole passwords from pages on social networks. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
“Messages can be sent in English. The content of the message is that Meta employees are allegedly informing the owner of the page about a violation of the community rules. Fraudsters can also write that after viewing your page has determined how many times you have violated copyright. . If you believe this is a mistake, you must appeal it, otherwise your account will be deactivated within 24 hours. And they provide a link to the appeal form , and when the owner of the page clicks on the link, the fraudulent resource will ask you. to enter your own login and password in social networks. After that, as someone enters this data , it automatically identifies scammers,” the message said.
The Ministry of Justice reminds about safety rules in social networks.
“Remember, Instagram and Facebook never write about account security in Direct messages. Emails from Meta (Instragram and Facebook) about the security of your account and login sent in the last 14 days can be found in the Security section”, the message said.
In addition, the message contains instructions on how to protect your accounts in social networks and instant messengers from scammers.
“Set up multi-factor authentication, this function is in your account settings and can be called Two-step verification – this is when to log into your account, in addition to your login and password, you need to enter a confirmation code sent to your smartphone, email or the corresponding application. Do not enter your logins and passwords for accounts on unfamiliar and suspicious websites. Create complex and unique passwords for each account,” the ministry’s press service advised.
