Military support for Ukraine is paid from the “general financial management” budget, and in it the German Ministry of Finance has allocated 4 billion euros to help Kyiv next year. Of this amount, 3.1 billion euros are planned for previously promised benefit measures, 770 million euros are reserved for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its assistance. And only 120 million euros will remain for new military projects in 2024. This was reported by Bild with reference to a confidential document from the ministry.
However, the German defense department noted that Ukraine’s needs are much higher, and the Ukrainian authorities expect additional assistance from Berlin in the amount of 5.22 billion euros.
880 million euros are needed for air defense, and 675 million euros for armored combat vehicles. Another 390 million euros are needed for engineering activities, 935 million euros for protective equipment, and 2.34 billion euros for repairs, spare parts and logistics.
Also, the new budget did not include 525 million euros in return for the material transferred by the German army.
The budget for 2024 will be finalized in mid-November. Before that, negotiations on the budget will still continue.
Let us remind you that on October 20, US President Joe Biden invited Congress to agree on a budget to help Ukraine and Israel. The media reported that the request amounted to $105 billion. Washington plans to allocate $61.4 billion to Ukraine, and $14.3 billion to Israel, including $9.15 billion in humanitarian aid.
