The so-called “hypersonic” Russian Kinzhal missile is still in the stage of operational testing, and the results of its use in Ukraine have been unsatisfactory. This was reported by British intelligence in Twitter on Saturday, October 21st.
In particular, analysts responded to the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who sent MiG-31 aircraft with Kinzhal missiles to patrol the Black Sea.
“This statement corresponds to typical Russian rhetoric aimed at a domestic audience: the West is called the aggressor, and Russia’s activities are necessary to protect the state,” the intelligence agency said.
Analysts believe that “Putin’s specific mention of the Kinzhal missile and its capabilities was almost certainly made for the strategic purpose of demonstrating that Russia remains capable of developing and operating new types of weapons despite of the ongoing Ukrainian conflict.”
“The dagger is actually still in the stage of operational testing, and the results of its use in Ukraine are still not satisfactory. On paper, it still has high potential, with the ability to fly at hypersonic speeds and avoids modern air defense systems, although Russia will almost certainly realize this potential. Its use needs to be improved significantly,” it said.
Let’s remember that during the war, the Ukrainian air defense shot down 13 Kinzhal missiles, mainly in the Kyiv area. Russia last used these missiles on August 11. One of the missiles was shot down, and three others hit the airport in Kolomyia in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The enemy’s target is pilots who will learn to fly the F-16.
It was also reported that during the attack on August 11, the Russians lost one of the Kinzhal missiles. It falls in the Tula region. The rocket was found a month later during field work.
