The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) writes about this.
The first Russian offensive operation in the Avdeevka area on October 10 resulted in significant losses of Russian equipment. At the same time, the fact of the regrouping of Russian forces and a new offensive indicates that either Russian forces believe that they can really take Avdievka, or that the Russian military command is poorly prioritizing offensive operations.
Geolocation footage from October 20 indicates that Russian forces have advanced slightly west of Krasnogorovka (5 km north of Avdeevka).
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that Ukrainian forces repulsed Russian attacks near Avdiivka, Novokalinovoy, Stepnoy, Pervomaisky (11 km southwest of Avdiivka) and Severny. On October 19, near Avdeevka, Ukrainian troops damaged and destroyed about 50 Russian tanks and more than 100 armored vehicles. Ukrainian troops operating in the Avdeevka area reported on October 20 that Ukrainian forces had destroyed 200 Russian armored vehicles over the past four days.
In the zone of responsibility of the Tavriya OSV in the Avdeevka direction, the enemy does not abandon attempts to cordon off Avdeevka, but our soldiers staunchly hold the defense, inflicting numerous losses on the enemy. The offensive actions of the occupiers in the Novokalinovye, Stepnoye and Pervomaisky districts of the Donetsk region were unsuccessful,” the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said in a statement.
