KIIS Deputy Director Anton Grushetsky emphasized that Ukrainians do not reduce European and Euro-Atlantic integration to utilitarian pursuits for protection and well-being.
Ukrainians named the main motives for joining the EU: guarantees of long-term security (59%) and economic prospects (57%). This is confirmed by the KIIS survey data.
It is reported that many respondents indicated other motives: the future of Ukrainian democracy (44%), ensuring the rule of law (45%), international recognition of Ukraine’s place in Europe (41%).

“Both the EU and NATO are also value-based unions. Among Ukrainians, 95% want to see Ukraine as a fully functioning democracy. Therefore, it is important that among the drivers of support for European integration, a large proportion of Ukrainians talking about democracy, the rule of law, and the European identity of Ukraine,” – said the sociologist.

Earlier, Zelensky reported that this year Ukraine should start accession negotiations with the EU.
