The head of state appoints a member of the Advisory Group of Experts, which will select candidates for the Constitutional Court.
The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky appointed his representative to the first composition of the Advisory Group of Experts on the selection of judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. This is stated on the website of the head of state.
According to Decree No. 691/2023 of October 16, the director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Law of Kyiv National University named after A. Taras Shevchenko Oksana Vasilchenko, with her permission.
Also, according to this order, Igor Protsyuk, head of the department of legal theory at Yaroslav the Wise National Law University, was elected as his deputy.
Let’s recall that on August 17, Zelensky signed a law regulating the selection of Constitutional Court judges, which is important for the start of EU accession negotiations.
On August 20, a law went into effect clarifying the provisions on the competitive selection of candidates for the position of Constitutional Court judge.
According to this law, within six years, candidates to the Constitutional Court will be selected by the Advisory Group of Experts, which includes six people: a person appointed by the President, a person appointed by the Verkhovna Rada, a person appointed of the Congress of Judges (in the first composition of the Advisory Group of Experts instead of the Congress appointments being made by the Council of Judges), one person appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers on the proposal of the Venice Commission, two persons appointed of the government during proposals from international and foreign organizations.
