He must take part in negotiations on the current state of the Israeli-Palestinian confrontation. CNN reports this.
Blinken returned to Israel after talks in six Arab states. During the trip, U.S. officials said, he heard widespread opposition to Hamas but was also concerned about the plight of the Palestinians.
He also had a conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan about “diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing the expansion of the conflict and minimizing the humanitarian costs of the war” in Israel, as a result of which he “welcomed Turkey’s constructive participation.”
Blinken was in Israel last week days after Hamas launched its attacks in a show of support from US President Joe Biden’s administration.
Blinken’s return comes as the United States attempts to help American citizens trapped in the Gaza Strip pass through the only exit from the remaining blockade, the Rafah crossing into Egypt.
The US is also working with regional partners to help free hostages, including American citizens captured by Hamas during the October 7 attack.
It is noted that Blinken arrived in Jerusalem to meet with Israeli officials. During his visit to Israel last week, he did not visit Jerusalem – the meetings took place in Tel Aviv, where the airport is located.
His meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem has already begun.
