The aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan arrived in South Korea on Thursday to show America’s support for the country in the confrontation with North Korea.
US Navy Carrier Strike Group 5, led by a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan arrived on a five-day visit to South Korea’s main naval base in the port of Busan. Yonhap reported this on October 12, citing the country’s Ministry of Defense.
Earlier this week, the carrier strike group Ronald Reaganwhich also includes a missile defense system equipped Aegisdestroyer Shoop and several other warships, conducted a two-day trilateral exercise between the South Korean and Japanese navies in the East China Sea.
The visit comes amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula following North Korea’s announcement of a new submarine capable of carrying nuclear weapons and Pyongyang’s pledge to make another attempt to launch a military spy satellite into space at the end of October.
