According to Pavlova, among the detainees there are Russians, a Belarusian and an Albanian. Five of them have already been charged with participation in a criminal group and illegal export. The group operated in several Bulgarian cities, including the capital, Sofia.
According to the Bulgarian State National Security Agency, the supplies were intended for Russian special forces participating in the full-scale invasion of Ukraine: the Russian Guard, the GRU, Chechen battalions and the Wagner PPK. Products exported by the group included optical sights, binoculars, aircraft radios and software.
After the imposition of sanctions against Russia in response to its aggression, the export of such goods from Bulgaria is possible only with the permission of the Ministry of Economy. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Service of Bulgaria, the detainees acted without permission.
