Support for the forces of freedom in Ukraine will be strong at any time of the year and in any storm, Lloyd Austin promised.
There are at least five reasons why Ukraine’s resistance against Russian aggression is important. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said this while speaking at a Ramstein meeting in Brussels on Wednesday, October 11.
“Everyone here understands the stakes and why Ukraine’s fight for protection is important. Ukraine is important because a war of Putin’s choosing is a huge and serious threat to European security,” the Pentagon chief said.
Second, he said, Ukraine is important because Russian aggression clearly challenges America’s NATO allies in Europe.
The third reason is that Russian atrocities against Ukrainian civilians contradict Western values and threaten the rule of international law.
Fourth, Ukraine matters because Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian grain are deliberately causing hunger and suffering for innocent people around the world.
Fifth, Ukraine is important because if large states can invade their peaceful and democratic neighbors with impunity, it will undermine the basic international rules that have strengthened the world after World War II.
“This is what brought us together again. And, as I said earlier, I continue to believe that our support for the forces of freedom in Ukraine will be strong in any season and in any storm,” the head of the Pentagon concluded.
We remind you that today Lloyd Austin announced a new military aid package for Ukraine worth $200 million. This includes the AIM-9 missiles for the new air defense systems, which will soon be delivered to our country.
