While descending along the green route from Goverla, two tourists got lost, the State Emergency Service reported.
At 14.20 one of the lost tourists was found. Rescuers accompanied him to the Zaroslyak base; a little later, between the Goverlovsky Falls and the blue route, they found the second one without signs of life.
Rescuers carried out resuscitation measures, unfortunately without success.
Another unfortunate story happened in Yaremche. There, a child fell into the Proboy waterfall. Rescuers, together with a local resident, pulled the boy out of the Easter cake and handed him over to doctors.
Today the first snow fell in Ukraine. Mount Pip Ivan in the Carpathians was covered in snow. The temperature dropped to 1 °C, and wind gusts reached 8 m/s.
Mountain rescuer Taras Brinda shared with the Public some tips in case a person gets lost in the mountains:
-
stop, pause, think carefully about what happened in the last half hour, and remember where she might have taken a wrong turn;
-
If you are unable to remember the route and return, you must immediately call the Rescue Service at 101 and 112 or directly to the mobile rescue and search unit. It can be recorded ahead of time;
-
it is also necessary to urgently call rescuers if one of the tourists is injured;
-
the main thing is to report what happened: you will receive advice from rescuers and a search and rescue team will be sent to you;
-
if there is no connection, you should change the direction of movement or climb a little higher and try to find mobile coverage. The higher you rise, the greater the chances of finding a connection, but during a thunderstorm this should not be done, because the risk of being struck by lightning will increase;
-
if you come across a mountain stream, then you need to move down it. Although this increases the risk of injury during descent;
-
You can also go down a slightly visible path. However, then you also need to be careful because of the possibility of injury;
-
It’s good to have a whistle with you and sound signals to them so as not to shout.
In addition, Taras Brynda advises installing the Mountain Rescue mobile application on your smartphone. With its help, a tourist can send calls to the rescue service and transmit SOS signals with geographic coordinates. According to the rescuer, the application runs on Android, but will soon be available for Apple owners.
