The chosen one of the people has become a criminal authority – he and his gang “extort tribute” from the residents of Transcarpathia.
Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine neutralized a criminal group that threatened residents of the western border of Ukraine. In particular, they detained the leader of the gang – a current deputy of the regional council, who among criminal circles has the status of a criminal authority. The SBU reported this on its Telegram channel on Saturday, October 7.
The attacker was a long-time associate and godfather of Viktor Medvedchuk. The latter at one time appointed the attacker as the head of the regional cell of the banned party OPZZH. In March 2022, the criminal even planned to become a representative of the people instead of his fellow party member Ilya Kiva, who was stripped of his deputy mandate.
“According to the investigation, the imprisoned deputy of the regional council organized a gang that tried to keep the residents of the border region in fear and “extorted” money from them… If they refused to pay “tribute “, the bandits threatened the victims with violence and “confiscation” of private property,” – reported in the SBU.
The deputy, along with his “right hand” – another crime boss – demanded 135 thousand dollars from a local businessman. To force the man to hand over the money, the gang leader’s henchman steals the victim’s car and promises to return it if the fictitious “debt” is paid in full.
SBU officers detained the deputy and his accomplice while transferring the first part of the money in the amount of 20 thousand dollars from the injured businessman to them.
The attackers are now in custody, a suspicion report is being prepared for them under the articles Demands made by an organized group under martial law (Part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and Illegal car seizure (Part 3 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The court decided on the choice of a preventive measure – detention.
