The new aid package will mainly include ammunition and spare parts for equipment. Jonson noted that the package consists of materials that the Ukrainians asked for.
This should be seen as an expression of Sweden’s commitment to long-term support of Ukraine,” the Swedish minister emphasized.
He also said that the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Defense Weapons Agency have been instructed to study the possibility of transferring or exporting Gripen fighters to Ukraine.
The government has decided to commission… to evaluate the conditions under which Sweden can contribute in the field of combat aircraft. We can do this by expanding our participation in the F-16 coalition or by donating or exporting the Gripen system,” Jonson said.
The assessment is expected to be ready by November 6th.
We also stated that a prerequisite for the provision of fighters is that Sweden is a NATO ally, and we conducted a dialogue with the Ukrainians, and they expressed understanding of this, Jonson said.
Let us remind you that Sweden is part of the aviation coalition, the purpose of which is to provide Ukraine with fighter jets. Previously, Ukrainian pilots and ground personnel had the opportunity to test Gripen aircraft in Sweden.
