The American government transferred approximately 1.1 million rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The US Central Command officially confirmed the transfer to Ukraine of weapons confiscated from Iran. In a press release from the command, published on Wednesday, October 4, it is reported that we are talking, in particular, about the transfer of approximately 1.1 million rounds of 7.62 mm caliber ammunition.
The United States reportedly took title to the ammunition on July 20, 2023, as part of a Department of Justice civil forfeiture action against Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
It is known that these ammunition were confiscated by the US Central Command on December 9, 2022. They were found on the transit ship MARWAN 1. The ammunition was transported from the IRGC to the Houthis in Yemen in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2216.
“The United States is committed to working with our allies and partners to counter the flow of Iranian lethal assistance to the region through all legal means, including US and UN sanctions and embargoes. Iran’s support for these armed groups threaten international and regional security, our forces, diplomatic personnel and citizens in the region, as well as our partners,” the order said.
It also added that it will continue to do everything to shed light on Iran’s destabilizing activities and stop them.
We remind you that earlier the media reported that the United States planned to transfer thousands of confiscated Iranian weapons and ammunition to Ukraine. It is noted that it is not known on what legal basis the United States will facilitate the transfer of weapons, as the UN requires that captured weapons be destroyed or hidden.
We remind you that Biden discussed support for Ukraine with allies.
