Canada, Sweden, Ukraine and the UK filed a case against Iran at the International Court of Justice over the downing of the UIA plane in 2020. Tehran is accused of violating the Montreal Convention.
Iran continues to refuse to admit its responsibility for the downing of the UIA plane with passengers on board on January 8, 2020 (flight PS752) near Tehran airport and ignores the claims of the International Group for the Coordination of Assistance to Victims of the Calamity It was discussed on Tuesday, October 3, on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
“This week, representatives of the four member countries of the Coordination Group met with officials from Iran, as the state responsible for the downing of the plane. The main topics were that Tehran should answer for its violation of international law and fully compensate for the damage from the crash of flight PS752,” it said in the message.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that during the talks it was noted that for the Group, full compensation is more important than financial compensation.
“However, so far Iran does not want to support the position of the Coordination Group in essence, therefore the points of view of both sides are too far from each other to be reconciled through negotiations,” the Foreign Ministry pointed out.
They noted that as long as Iran refuses to recognize its full international legal responsibility, the Coordination Group will continue to take steps to resolve this issue in accordance with international law, including through proceedings before of the International Court of Justice.
“The families of the victims of flight PS752 deserve transparency, justice and accountability for the tragic loss of their loved ones and the suffering they continue to endure. The coordination team remains committed to this goal,” added of the Foreign Ministry.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry was angered by Canada, Sweden, Ukraine and Britain’s claim to the International Court of Justice over the downing of Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 in 2020, which killed 176 people.
Let us recall that Ukraine and other members of the coordination group filed a case against Iran at the International Court of Justice for the downing of Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) flight PS752, because Iran did not respond to the request of the four countries that create arbitration to resolve disputes.
