The British Ministry of Defense announced this today, October 1, on its page on the social network X (formerly Twitter), citing intelligence data.
Documents likely leaked from the Russian Ministry of Finance suggest that Russian defense spending will rise to about 30 percent of total government spending in 2024, the report said.
It is noted that these data indicate that the Russian Ministry of Defense is proposing a defense budget of 10.8 trillion rubles for 2024, which is equivalent to approximately 6% of GDP and 68% more than in 2023.
It is very likely that Russia will be able to maintain this level of defense spending until 2024, but only at the expense of the economy as a whole, the British Defense Department notes.
Full information on Russian defense spending is always classified, but these figures indicate that Russia is preparing for further years of fighting in Ukraine, the British Ministry of Defense adds.
The department also recalls that Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on September 27 that he is ready for the conflict to continue until 2025.
