UEFA is trying to “calm down” countries that have boycotted the organization’s decision to return Russian youth teams under the age of 17 to competitions.

    .

    Sky News reports this.

In support of its position, UEFA cites the position of the Ukrainian government, which allows athletes to compete in sports tournaments where Russians are present in a neutral status. Approximately 10 countries (including Ukraine) protested UEFA’s decision to admit Russia U17 to the tournament.

On September 27, it became known that UEFA will allow Russian teams whose players are under 17 years old to compete internationally. Matches of Russian teams will be held without the country’s flag and anthem, as well as on neutral territory.

At the same time, UEFA emphasized that it continues to condemn Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

On September 30, England, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Norway, and Romania joined the boycott of Russians. Several other countries – Switzerland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Estonia – said they were awaiting further clarification from UEFA.
