Peter Szijjártó said neither Budapest nor Ankara are currently considering ratifying Stockholm’s application and added that he wanted “some respect.”
Sweden’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance is currently not on the agenda of the Hungarian Parliament. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó announced this on his Facebook page on Friday, September 22.
The Hungarian official met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. One of the main topics was the ratification of Sweden’s membership in NATO.
“This issue is not yet on the agenda in any of the parliaments,” assured the Hungarian Foreign Minister.
In addition, the Hungarian official said that “a little respect would be good…”. However, he did not specify what he meant.
Earlier, Peter Szijjarto accused the European Union of hypocrisy and envy. He said that the EU is jealous of Budapest and Ankara.
We remind you that Hungary is threatening to prevent Sweden from joining NATO because of an “offensive” 10-minute video shot by the Swedish public educational broadcaster UR.
