Polish President Andrzej Duda said that the media incorrectly interpreted the words of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki about stopping arms supplies to Ukraine. He said this in an interview with TVN24.

The Prime Minister’s words were interpreted in the worst way… In my opinion, the Prime Minister said this: we are not going to transfer to Ukraine the new weapons that we are currently purchasing to modernize the Polish army,” Duda said.
The president added that, like the head of government, he believes that Poland cannot transfer its new weapons to anyone, “which we are now purchasing for billions of dollars for the Polish army in order to strengthen it, strengthen the security of Poland.”
“I myself will be the first to oppose the transfer of new weapons that we are currently receiving from South Korea or the United States, for example, new Abrams tanks, Patriot kits or HIMARS,” Duda added.
The President emphasized that Poland has contracts to supply Ukraine with Krab self-propelled artillery systems, as well as ammunition and engineer vehicles. Duda suggested that in the future Poland could transfer its old weapons to Ukraine.
On September 20, Mateusz Morawiecki said that Poland is now no longer supplying weapons to Ukraine, focusing on arming its own army.
Ukraine is defending itself from a brutal attack by Russia, and I understand this situation, but as I said, we will defend our country. We are no longer transferring weapons to Ukraine because we are now arming Poland,” Morawiecki said.
The US Department of Defense, commenting on Morawiecki’s words, said that any country decides for itself what level of support it will provide to Ukraine.
Poland has been one of the leading countries when it comes to providing security assistance to Ukraine, and not only in the security field, but also in terms of providing significant humanitarian assistance and support for the more than a million displaced Ukrainians who traveled to Poland as a result of the Russian invasion, said Pentagon Press Secretary Patrick Ryder September 21.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Poland has provided the Ukrainian Armed Forces with military assistance worth more than three billion euros. Supplies included ammunition, armored vehicles and Soviet fighters.
