Romania and allied countries agreed to strengthen air defense in the region after the debris fall.
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said that the dropping of debris from Russian drones on Romanian territory is not an attack, but it constitutes a “serious problem,” reports Agerpres.
This was discussed at the World Leadership Forum at Columbia University in New York. Answering students’ questions, the president said that debris from Russian drones had been found three times on Romanian territory, and although no one was injured, “this does not mean that these incidents are not important.”
The Romanian leader added that Romania and allied countries agreed to strengthen air defense in the region after the aforementioned incidents.
“Even if the Russian attacks are not aimed at Romania, the situation is unacceptable. The drones are not attacking Romania, but the fact that their debris is falling on the country’s territory is a real which is a problem that needs to be solved,” Iohannis stressed.
The President noted that people living near the border fear a Russian attack, but understand the importance of supporting Ukraine.
“They see the bombing on the other side and they think that if we stand and watch, we might be next,” the president stressed.
Let’s recall that on September 9, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed a protest to Russia’s Charge d’Affaires regarding the violation of the country’s airspace and the discovery of fragments of Russian drones.
