This was reported by Reuters.
The military aid package is expected to include a second tranche of cluster munitions. During Joe Biden’s meeting with Vladimir Zelensky in New York, other new types of weapons for Ukraine will be announced, but not ATACMS missiles.
Ukraine received the first tranche of 155 mm cluster munitions in July 2023. These unguided artillery shells have a maximum range of 18 miles (29 km) and carry up to 72 bombs.
The dispatch of cluster munitions has reduced the consumption of standard 155-mm shells, which the United States also plans to include in the current tranche.
Washington plans to send additional Avenger short-range air defense systems, which use Stinger missiles made by RTX Corp, the former Raytheon, the agency source said.
The planned aid package to Ukraine includes TOW and AT4 anti-tank systems, High Mobility Artillery Multiple Launch System (HIMARS) missiles, Javelin anti-tank missiles, created jointly with Lockheed and RTX Corp, as well as other equipment.
According to the source, the package is being finalized and changes may be made to it.
The United States will likely not provide ATACMS long-range missile systems to Ukraine anytime soon, despite Zelensky’s repeated requests, CNN reports.
Anonymous sources also said that ATACMS will not be part of the new weapons package for Ukraine.
