Training of Ukrainian personnel for Leopard tanks could take place on the territory of Latvia, sources said.
The Spanish authorities are ready to provide Ukraine with Leopard 2A4 tanks and anti-aircraft missile systems. This was reported by El Pais, citing government sources on Sunday, June 5th.
It is said that we are talking about about 40 tanks for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which have been mothballed and now they need to be repaired and reused. For the past 10 years, these machines have “hibernated” at the base in Zaragoza.

In addition, Spain offered Ukraine to train crews for Leopard tanks. This could happen on Latvian territory, where there is a Spanish contingent of 500 soldiers with six Leopard 2E tanks. In the second stage, the training of Ukrainian tankers will take place in Spain.
The publication also reported that Madrid is already completing the delivery of batteries of short-range Shorad Aspide anti-aircraft missile systems produced by the MBDA in Kyiv, which the Spanish army has replaced with another more advanced system.
The issue of air defense systems and the training of tankers was raised in April, when the head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, traveled to Kyiv and met with President Volodymyr Zelensky. On the same day, Isabel’s army ship sailed from El Ferrola with 200 tons of ammunition and armored vehicles.
To date, Spain has delivered ammunition, personal protective equipment and light weapons such as grenade launchers and machine guns to Ukraine.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Madrid Serhiy Pogoreltsev thanked Spain for the help, but added that the Armed Forces of Ukraine needed as many tanks as possible, anti-ship and anti-aircraft missiles, 155mm howitzers or 120mm mortar. Previously, he said Spain provided “one of the lowest levels of military assistance in relation to its defense budget.”
It was previously reported that Switzerland allowed Germany to move Leopard tanks to Ukraine. We can talk about 42 units of military equipment.
