The Ukrainian advance in the western Zaporozhye region likely forced the Russian command to prioritize Russian defense. The enemy even transferred elite formations from near Bakhmut to this direction – units of the 83rd Separate Guards Air Assault Brigade. This is stated in the report of the American Institute for the Study of War.
It is noted that at the end of June, units of the 83rd brigade were deployed to defend against the offensive of the Ukrainian defense forces in the Klishchievka area, and at the end of August they were noticed in the Zaporozhye region. However, on September 11, units of the 83rd Airborne Brigade were still operating in the Bakhmut area, although some of its units were probably divided on two different sectors of the front.
ISW believes that in recent weeks Kleshchiyivka has been the center of hostilities in the Bakhmut area, and the redeployment of any elements of the 83rd Paratroopers Brigade indicates the enemy’s deep concern about the advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the west of the Zaporozhye region and the priority of defending the occupied territory.
In Zaporozhye, as the report says, elite Russian troops are concentrated – units of the 98th Airborne Division, 83rd Airborne Brigade, 11th Airborne Brigade, 31st Airborne Brigade, 106th Airborne Division and 364th Airborne Division and 364th Airborne Division.
Let us recall that on September 16, the Ministry of Defense stated that the Defense Forces in the south of Ukraine continue the offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, inflicting significant losses on the occupation forces in manpower and equipment, forcing the enemy to retreat from their positions.
