Large-scale naval exercises by NATO member countries Baltops-2022 will begin near the coast of Sweden. They will run from June 5 to June 12, the Alliance’s press service reports.
The Baltops exercise is one of the largest in Northern Europe. This year they will start in Stockholm with a ceremony in honor of the 500th anniversary of the Swedish Navy. The military will then conduct maneuvers in the waters of the Baltic Sea and in the airspace of the region. The exercises will end in the area of the German city of Kiel.
The air, land and sea exercises will be attended by 14 NATO member countries, as well as Sweden and Finland, who have applied to join the Alliance. In total, 45 warships, 7,000 military personnel, 75 aircraft and helicopters are involved in Baltops-2022.
It was previously reported that NATO air forces are conducting exercises in Poland and the Baltic countries. The maneuvers, called Ramstein Legacy 2022, involve military aircraft, as well as short-range air defense systems.
And in mid-May, the largest Defense Forces exercise Ezh-2022 began in Estonia. They were attended by approximately 15 thousand military personnel, including from 10 NATO partner countries.
