Today, September 15, the relevant measures expired, but Kyiv agreed to take measures to limit imports on its part. The European Commission analyzed the impact of restrictions on the export of four categories of agricultural products on the EU market and came to the conclusion that they contributed to the correction of price hikes in the markets of five EU member states that required the ban. This is reported on the commission’s website.
As a result, it was agreed that the current measures expire today, the European Commission noted.
The Europeans also reported that the Ukrainian authorities agreed to act so that grain prices do not rise. For this purpose, an export licensing system will be introduced within 30 days.
Starting from September 16, Kyiv must “introduce effective control measures” over the export of four categories of agricultural products, in respect of which restrictions were introduced. All these measures must be submitted by the Ukrainian authorities to the European Commission no later than Monday, September 18.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that his country continues to ban the import of Ukrainian grain from midnight on September 16.
We will continue the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain, despite the lack of consent from the European Commission, he said.
Let us remind you that the Polish authorities stated that Warsaw will ask the European Commission to extend the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain after September 15, but if they refuse, then such a decision will be made independently. And Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki emphasized that “Poland will not allow us to be flooded with Ukrainian grain.”
