Russia has developed new Kh-BD cruise missiles and armed them with Tu-160 supersonic strategic missile-carrying bombers. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced this on Saturday, September 16.
“The (aircraft – ed.) carries an X-BD missile with a range of more than 6,500 km,” said Lieutenant General Sergei Kobylash, commander of long-range aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces, during a visit to Knevichi airfield in Primorye by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
According to him, the carrying capacity of the Tu-160 is 100 tons. And Shoigu explained that the bombers were equipped with two cassettes of six X-BD missiles.
It was previously known that Shoigu showed Kim Jong-un the Dagger missile. The leader of the DPRK also met with the Russian aircraft.
The media also reported that Russia began to launch Kinzhal missiles from Su-34 aircraft, and not only from MiG-31, as was the case before.
