Special industrial-grade 3D printers for printing equipment parts were delivered to Ukraine in August.
In August, the United States of America moved industrial 3D printers to Ukraine, which can be used to print spare parts for military equipment. William LaPlante, the Pentagon’s assistant director for acquisition and sustainment, said this on Friday, September 15, Voice of America reports.
He noted that Ukrainian specialists have already mastered the technology and can print the necessary spare parts.
LaPlante suggested that the presence of these printers on the Ukrainian side “will change the situation,” as the devices speed up the process of restoring equipment damaged at the front and open new opportunities.
“You can make great things with 3D printing, not just because of the speed. You can actually make parts that you couldn’t make under normal conditions,” a Pentagon spokesman said.
He added that in Ukraine, after the start of the large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, specialists began to 3D print spare parts and components on their own initiative, even without appropriate permits and without technical data package.
“You know what they say, when your country is under existential attack, intellectual property laws matter only a little bit. So we got that. Now they have all the technical that data package,” he said.
