Today, September 15, the Latvian parliament approved the composition of the new government, headed by Evika Silina from the New Unity party. Delfi reported it.
Evika Silina’s predecessor Krisjanis Karin headed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The new coalition includes New Unity, the Union of Greens and Farmers and the Progressives.
“On May 31 of this year, all three political forces that now form the government of Siline voted to elect Edgar Rinkevich, nominated for this post by the New Unity, as president. The presidential elections became starting point for negotiations on changing the composition of the government. And if at the beginning it was about building the “broadest possible coalition” — with the participation, in particular, of both the “Joint List” and the National Association – ended the this process of creating a government based on only 53 votes in the Seimas,” the statement said.
Evika Silina is a lawyer by training, in the previous government she held the position of Minister of Welfare, previously she was the parliamentary secretary of Prime Minister Kariņš, and before that she was the parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
It was previously reported that Latvia has transferred additional Mi-17 helicopters to Ukraine.
